Tame stuff for a tamer age. Now the big movie premise is whether a man and a woman can have sex without falling in love. Last year, " Love and Other Drugs " played it for both satire and tragedy, giving the boy a hot-shot big pharma job and the girl an incurable disease. In fact, it even goes out of its way to make fun of the genre, occasionally showing the characters watching a bad, made-up romance on TV with Jason Segel and Rashida Jones.
Movie Review. Directed by Will Gluck. With Justin Timberlake, Mila Kunis. Now playing in New Jersey Rating note: The film contains sexual situations, nudity and alcohol abuse. For everyone. The very thin plot has executive recruiter Mila Kunis getting webpage genius Justin Timberlake a Manhattan magazine job.
He's new to the city, and the two end up becoming friends. Then they decide they need to add some "benefits. Both performers obediently show their bottoms, but the bedroom scenes don't have the honesty that the ones in "Love and Other Drugs" did. And even though there are plenty of things that sound like jokes, there aren't nearly as many laughs as in " No Strings Attached. Instead, the film progresses fitfully, with a series of carefully choreographed sex scenes interspersed with family drama , several inexplicable cameos by extreme athlete Shaun White, and a really dreadful sense of Manhattan geography.
I know the majority of Americans will not notice, or care, but GQ magazine does not have its own building in Rockefeller Center β and even if it did, Soho would not be practically next door.
But then the whole picture is a little lost. Timberlake, though, is out of his depth. He was great fun in " The Social Network " in a supporting role; he could just parachute in, take over a scene, and then walk away. But he has to carry a whole movie here, and he's too lightweight to lift it.
